Who can make a complaint about a breach of the Code and how?
Anyone may make a complaint about a breach of the Code. The complaint must be in writing.
The local assessment
Since 8 May 2008, the Council's Standards Committee deals with complaints about breaches of the Member Code of Conduct. The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 transferred the function of investigation and hearing of complaints from Standards for England to local Standards Committees, with Standards for England retaining a more strategic role with some powers to investigate and hear complaints that could not be dealt with locally.
The Standards Committee will only investigate complaints if a Member breaches the Code of Conduct. The full Code is contained in Part 9 of the Council’s Constitution.
If you want to make a complaint against a Member, please read the guidance below before you fill out the complaint form.
If your complaint is not about a Member, then please use the Council's complaints procedure.
Following a Standards (determination) hearing on 31 March 2011, the notice of decision has been published.
