Why does the Council ask for information about my disability, race, sexuality and religion and how does it use it?

The Council has legal obligations to ensure that it does not discriminate against anyone based on their disability, race, sexuality or religion.  To ensure the Council meets these obligations, we monitor the equalities information of our customers  to identify any areas of improvement in our service delivery.

How will you protect the privacy of this information?

The Council uses equalities information for statistical purposes, as such it is anonymous and we are not able to ascertain your identity from the information.  This ensures the total protection of the information you provide.

If the Council does link your equalities information, we will only do so with your consent.

What happens if I don’t want to give the Council this information?

Nothing. You are not under any obligation to provide this information and if you choose not to provide it, the Council will not treat you any differently.
