19 000 volunteers help to improve the lives of people in Waltham Forest

Why have a volunteering strategy?

  • To help community organisations and groups develop volunteering
  • To increase volunteering as a key part of the Olympic legacy
  • To build community participation and cohesion
  • To build a healthier community

The strategy will be implemented by the Volunteering Action Consortium (VAC), which consists of Waltham Forest Council, Volunteer Centre Waltham Forest (VCWF), Voluntary Action Waltham Forest, Age Concern Waltham Forest, MET Police and Waltham Forest College.

The VAC will deliver:

  • a marketing campaign to promote and raise the profile of volunteering across all communities and age groups in Waltham Forest
  • an annual volunteering recognition event
  • improved working between key organisations and partners
  • clear signposts to volunteering for both volunteers and organisations
  • increased volunteering placements
  • encouragement of Volunteer Involving Organisations to adopt minimum quality standards
  • measurement of the positive impact volunteering has on the borough
  • an annual measurement of volunteer numbers
  • clear advice to potential volunteers that welfare benefits are volunteer friendly
  • easy referrals between volunteering to work-experience, training, and jobs
