Arcade proposals status
The Council and St Modwen remain committed to this key gateway project and as a result have been discussing plans to bring a swimming pool and other leisure facilities to the Arcade site. This is an exciting response to the decline in the economy and will result in a leisure hub in the centre of Walthamstow town centre.
The concept for the site remains a striking mixed-use development for this gateway location at the junction of Hoe Street and High Street. St Modwen have confirmed a pool and fitness space can be provided on the site without affecting the introduction of a cinema, affordable housing (including three and four bedroom family homes) and there is also strong interest from a hotel operator. Talks continue to take place to rework the details of this scheme.

Consultation was one of the key criteria of the tender process, and St Modwen has committed to undertake significant consultation with the community on its proposals. The final scheme will require planning permission in the usual way, and consultation will be undertaken as part of this process to ensure the local community’s views are taken into account.
