Consider visiting the trader personally, maybe by appointment, maybe with a friend or relative. Stay calm and polite. Take documents to support your claim. Be prepared to come to an amicable compromise, but don't be fobbed off.
If that does not work, write a letter to the Managing Director or Head Office. The details should be displayed on the premises or on letter headings. You may need to contact Companies House.
Your letter should include:
- The subject of your complaint
- A list of relevant dates
- The promises made, the promises broken
- Copies of any relevant supporting documents
- State what you want and expect
- Stipulate a deadline for their response, e.g. 14 days
- Remember to keep a copy
Trading Standards have put together a number of model letters that get results.
