Portage is a home-based intervention scheme for children under five with special needs. Portage home visitors work in partnership with parents helping them teach their children new and useful skills. Visits are weekly, lasting an hour. The home visitors and parents agree what skills to work on as long term goals. These are then broken down into smaller steps for weekly activities. Parents practise the activities daily with the child and record the outcomes.
