The Disabled Children's Social Work Team provide social work support to disabled children and young people, aged 0-19 years old, who live in Waltham Forest. We use criteria to help establish whether a child or young person should be receiving a social work service from our team, or the First Response Team for children and families. We receive our referrals from families directly as well as professionals in Health, Education and voluntary organisations.
The Disabled Children Social Work Team have two mobility officers based at Joseph Clarke School for visually impaired children. They provide mobility and independence training to visually impaired children in the London Borough of Waltham Forest.
Disabled Children Social Work Team’s open door policy
The Disabled Children Social Work Team operates an open door policy in the Wood Street Health Centre. Any parents / carers visiting the Child Development Team can see a duty social worker for social work related issues. If the duty social worker is too busy with other clients or there is no appointment room available then the Disabled Children Social Work Team will be happy to book an appointment with parents /carers.
Families can make a referral directly by speaking to the referral and support officer
