Community Paediatricians provide an out-patient based secondary care service to children (0-19 years) resident in Waltham Forest, as well as those attending Waltham Forest special schools. Paediatricians contribute to the multidisciplinary service at The Wood Street Health Centre. Children from outside Waltham Forest are seen in the Whipps Cross Neurodevelopmental and Epilepsy clinics. The main specialist areas covered by the Community Paediatricians are:
- Neuro-disability including complex disability and autistic spectrum disorders.
- Visual impairment multidisciplinary service.
- Paediatric Epilepsy Clinic.
- Education Act designated role – providing paediatric advice.
- Assessing school-aged children with neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Immunisation co-ordinator role including special immunisation advice clinic.
- Child Protection including ‘Designated Doctor for Child Protection‘ role.
- Clinical Child Protection – providing clinical examination of child abuse cases.
- Child Health Promotion lead for Waltham Forest policy, and training of GPs and health visitors.
- Neurodevelopmental follow-up of pre-term babies.
- ‘Looked After’ children’s service.
