The Child Health Team is responsible for recording information on the child health computer system on all children for whom Waltham Forest Primary Care Trust (PCT) is responsible. This includes children from birth to sixteen years of age (children with special needs to the age of 19).
The information held on the computer system is about all aspects of a child’s health which includes immunisations, health promotion checks, standard test results (e.g. Guthrie test and haemoglobinopathies). In addition to the above information the Child Health Team also keep information such as child protection, 'Looked After' children, and the Education Act process for children with special needs.
The Child Health Team is also responsible for the transferring children’s community health records who are moving into or out of the Borough.
The information and statistics produced from the child health system is used by our own PCT and various agencies, such as the Department of Health, Strategic Health Authority, Local Authority, Education Department for future and strategic planning.
The Child Health Team also appoint all children's immunisations for most Waltham Forest GPs and clinics. We also inform these GPs of surveillance checks when they are due. The Child Health Team can also allocate NHS numbers to new births.
