From time to time, it helps if you rely on someone to care for you - a relative or friend - for you both to have a break. As a carer it may help you get a break yourself if the person you care for goes away for a short time.

We can offer:

  • A residential home or similar place, or
  • In certain circumstances a flexible payment can be given for you to arrange your own break

Who can have this service?

  • You should live in Waltham Forest and be aged 18 or over, and
  • You have a permanent and substantial physical or sensory disability, or
  • You have a serious mental health need
  • You have had a Community Care Assessment which shows you have a high or very high priority need for this care

Will I have to pay towards this service?

There is a flat rate charge for respite breaks arranged by us. See Community Care Charges for details.

Who provides this service?

Respite care can be provided in a number of venues. In some situations flexible payments can be made to enable you to make respite care arrangements of your choice.

How to get this service

If you feel this service will help you or the person you are caring for contact your local Social Services Office. Staff there will be able to advise you.

If you are having inpatient treatment at Langthorne, Whipps Cross or Chingford Hospitals you can ask ward staff to contact hospital based social workers for you.
