This scheme offers you a short break away from home where you live with another family. This can be overnight, for a few days or a week or two at a time. We will try to match you with the family and take into account your cultural and religious needs as well as your lifestyle. This scheme may also give you a chance to re-learn or develop new skills.
Who can have this service?
- You are of retirement age and have mental or physical disabilities
- You have had a Community Care Assessment which shows you need this service
Will I have to pay towards this service?
We do charge for this service. We will tell you how much this is likely to be (if at all) as part of your Community Care Assessment. See Community Care Charges for details.
Who provides this service?
We work with local people and families to whom we give support to offer you accommodation in their homes.
How to get this service?
If you feel this service will help you or the person you are caring for contact your local Social Services Office. Staff there will be able to advise you.
If you are having inpatient treatment at Langthorne, Whipps Cross or Chingford Hospitals you can ask ward staff to contact hospital based social workers for you.

The home where you can have a break will be within one and an half hours travelling time from Waltham Forest.
We give regular support and training to the people who will work with you.
