Taxicards can enable you to get cheaper taxi fares if you are unable to use public transport. A number of newer ‘Black Cabs’ are designed to take wheelchairs.
Please note: there is a limit on single and return journeys and this is reviewed each year.
Who can have this service?
You should live in Waltham Forest, and meet at least one of the following:
- be registered blind, or
- have a long term or permanent disability which means you cannot walk more than 50 metres without help
- your family doctor is able to confirm that the disability is likely to last for more than two years
- the scheme is not available to people who suffer temporary disability (eg. a broken leg)
Will I have to pay towards this service?
Yes. The Taxicard enables you to have reduced rate fares. You pay the driver £1.50 for each journey which would normally cost up to £11.80, then you pay the full cost of the fare beyond this amount. These charges are subject to increase.
