If you have a permanent and severe disability and need to be able to park close to where you live, we can mark out a parking space in the road. You should normally be a ‘Blue Badge’ holder. This service is particularly for disabled drivers.

Who can have this service?

  • You should normally live in Waltham Forest
  • You should be a ‘Blue Badge’ Holder
  • Your home has no off street parking space or garage nearby
  • It must be extremely difficult to park near your home without a marked bay
  • You have had a Community Care Assessment which shows you need this service

Will I have to pay towards this service?

No. There is no charge for this service.

Who provides this service?

We will arrange with the Engineering Department of Waltham Forest Council to do the road markings.

How to get this service

You can download and complete the application form and return to the Mobility Team.

You will be required to send proof that you live at that address and proof that you receive the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate or Attendance Allowance. If you do not provide this we will not be able to arrange a marked parking bay for you.

To prove that you live at your address please send us a recent utility bill, for example a gas bill, electricity bill or telephone bill that is addressed to you.

To prove that you receive the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance please send us a copy of the letter that you received from the Department of Works and Pensions which shows how much benefit you get paid and why. If you do not have a copy of this letter you can request one by ringing 0800 882200.

An occupational therapist or a mobility officer may visit you to complete an assessment of your needs.

If you are having inpatient treatment at Langthorne, Whipps Cross or Chingford hospitals you can ask ward staff to contact hospital based social workers for you.

Other information

We need to mark the space in a ‘safe’ part of the road, so that your car does not become a road hazard by parking there.

The road marking is a courtesy bay only and is not enforceable in law. Therefore you cannot insist that other people do not use your parking bay.

Markings will be removed when the disabled person moves away.
