The Psychology Service: what do we provide?

The Psychology Service provides assessment and therapy for emotional, social, relationship and behavioural problems. Such problems may include stress and anxiety, phobias, depression, bereavement, obsessive compulsive disorders, sexual abuse, sexually and socially inappropriate behaviour and other challenging behaviours. Service users are seen individually or with family members or other carers. Sometimes they may be seen as part of a group.

The number of assessment or therapy sessions varies but work is usually short term, i.e. a matter of weeks or months. The psychologist will try to understand the service users' problems and work with them to resolve these problems. Work is sometimes consultative in nature, working directly with carers to alter patterns of care. Psychologists also undertake psychometric assessments, including IQ tests, to determine the person's level of cognitive functioning and whether they meet the eligibility criteria for access to Waltham Forest Learning Disability Services.

Who can have this service?

Will I have to pay?
