If your complaint relates to an issue of crime and disorder or public nuisance it is important that you must contact the appropriate authority immediately in order to report the incident. For instance if your complaint is regarding a suspected illegal activity taking place or an issue of crime and disorder the Police must be notified at the time the incident is occurring. If the complaint relates to noise nuisance from a licensed premises the Council's Noise Team should be contacted at the time of the disturbance.

What can I complain about a licensed premise?

Your enquiry may relate to:

  • Hours of operation
  • Issues relating to crime and disorder
  • Public nuisance
  • A premises operating without a valid license

If however, you feel comfortable in doing so, it is recommended that you raise your concerns with the licensee or business operator before lodging a complaint. It is sometimes the case that the matter may be resolved quickly without outside intervention.

What happens next?

The Licensing Service will investigate the complaint and advise you in writing of the outcome. The service will endeavour to provide you with a response as soon as possible however, dependent on the complaint and the type of investigation required this may take longer. Council policy allows for up to 10 calendar days for responses.
