A public weighbridge is, as the name suggests, a weighbridge that is available for the public to use. There is currently one public weighbridge in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The weighbridge is situated at Bywaters Waste Transfer Station and Leyton Refuse and Recycling Centre, Gateway Road, Leyton, London E10 5BY.

Operators of public weighbridges need to hold a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures. This ensures that they can perform their duties competently and honestly and can be obtained after performing a basic test. No one can operate public weighing equipment unless he or she holds a certificate.

Public Weighbridge Operators tests are conducted by virtue of the Weights and Measures Act 1985

The current fee for licence applications is £58.45 as recommended by the Local authorities Co-ordinators of Regulatory services (LACORS).
