Waltham Forest’s ambition is to use the Games and their legacy to help deliver five key priorities:

  • Use the Games to inspire all our residents to get involved in sport and culture as part of leading healthy lifestyles
  • Make the most of the regeneration opportunities offered by the Games, transform our public spaces and improve access for neighbourhoods near the Olympic Park
  • Use the Games to help raise the aspirations of our young people
  • Ensure our residents are enabled to develop skills and benefit from jobs and business opportunities arising from the Games
  • Use the Games to encourage people to be active citizens, especially by volunteering, in order to support community cohesion

In 2009 the Council’s Cabinet agreed the 2012 Strategy, which sets out how we will maximise the benefits of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
