Hosting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a once in a lifetime event that will be a motivating experience for local residents. We already have a wide range of sport programmes and facilities in place, and it’s our intention to build on this using the Games as an inspiration. With the many cultural, sporting and educational opportunities on offer, we want to ensure that opportunities are available for local residents to play a part in hosting the best Olympic and Paralympic Games ever.

Getting involved can mean anything from working at the Games in the many jobs that will need to be filled to having a say on the plans. There is also a whole range of volunteering opportunities available leading up to and during the Games.

Youth Ambassadors

The 2009 cohort of Youth Ambassadors has been recruited from Waltham Forest Schools and colleges. There is only one Ambassador's place in each secondary school and college so competition is tough. Young people should contact their headteachers if they are interested in becoming an Ambassador in the future.

adiZone

The adiZone is now open to the public in Langthorne Park. The adiZone - paid for by London 2012 sponsors adidas - includes a streetball court, a tennis wall, a traversing climbing wall and outdoor gym equipment. The facility is open to all and completely free. Coached sessions will be held at the adiZone on:
Tuesdays 6.30 - 8.30pm, Multisport
Thursdays 10 - 11am, women-only gym
Saturdays 10.30am - 12.30pm, Multisport.

Big Screen

Walthamstow's Big Screen is now up and running. Top things local residents have said they want to see are sporting events, films, music, cultural activity and local information.
