1948:2012 Exhibition

1948-opening-ceremony

The 1948:2012 exhibition looks back to the last time the Olympic Games came to London and looks forward to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Olympic Games last came to London in 1948 after a 12-year break during which time two Games had to be cancelled due to World War Two. 1948 was a fascinating year for London and Waltham Forest, and this unique and innovative exhibition celebrates London’s immense achievement in organising a major world event just three years after the war. Focusing on the personal accounts of local residents, it combines news footage from 1948, oral history and an interactive display.

The exhibition at Vestry House Museum has now closed. However, display materials from the celebrated 1948:2012 Exhibition is now on show at Leytonstone Library. Located in the entrance lobby and main reference area, the material can be viewed free of charge by visiting the library during its opening hours.
