The Council provides a collection service from residential properties for bulky waste that is not suitable to be collected as part of the weekly household refuse collection. Everyone has a duty to make sure that they dispose of their waste legally. Find out more

A number of organisations provide services to recycle or reuse suitable household items. See the links in the right hand menu for more information.

The Council will provide three free bulky collections each year to each domestic household. The year runs from 1 April to 31 March. Further collections can be provided at a cost starting at £35.25 (including VAT), reflecting the cost of providing the service.

Please note that we are unable to collect certain types of waste due to the vehicles and licences our contractors have available. These include rubble (hardcore), paints, soil, plasterboard, tyres, oil, hazardous and clinical waste.

Items counted as one free bulky collection

Each of the following counts as one free bulky collection:

  • Up to 10 bags of household waste, or
  • Up to 10 bags of garden waste, or
  • Sofa and two armchairs, or
  • Table and chairs, or
  • One double, or two single wardrobes, or
  • Bed and mattress, or
  • An appliance such as a fridge, washing machine or cooker

Items not included in a free bulky collection

Not all waste can be collected in a free bulky collection. We may be able to collect other bulky waste, such as fixtures and fittings (doors, carpet, dismantled bath and kitchen suites) but you will be charged for this. This depends on the type, amount and weight of the waste, and how easy it is to access. Please contact Waltham Forest Direct, and we will visit and give you a quote if it is possible to collect your waste. The waste will be collected when payment is received.
