Waltham Forest Drug Action Team

We want to address the problems caused by drug and alcohol misuse in Waltham Forest. Drugs and alcohol misuse has a devastating impact on the health and lives of individuals, families and communities, and is a significant cause of crime.

The Drug Action Team (DAT) is a partnership with representatives from the Council, police, health, probation and the voluntary sector in Waltham Forest working to reduce the harm that drugs and alcohol cause.

We have commissioned two new drug treatment services for people with drug and alcohol problems, which will help to reduce drug and alcohol related harm.

The DAT is responsible for delivering preventative and treatment interventions for young people and adults, making treatment services more accessible to offenders to help reduce their drug use and involvement in crime.

The four key objectives of the Waltham Forest DAT are:

  • Preventing harm to children, young people and families affected by drug misuse
  • Delivering new approaches to drug treatment and social re-integration
  • Engaging communities through communication and public information
  • Promoting safe, sensible and responsible drinking

The work of the Waltham Forest drug action team includes:

  • Commissioning drug and alcohol support and treatment services for the borough
  • Commissioning services to reduce drug related crime
  • Delivering preventative strategies to young people at risk of problematic drug and alcohol use
  • Working in partnership with the community to assess the drug support needs of Waltham Forest residents
  • Consulting with service users and carers to better understand and meet their service needs
  • Working in partnership with the police and other agencies to reduce the impact and harm on the community of drug dealing and using
