Hazardous waste collection

Last updated 10 April 2013

Please note:
Waste such as asbestos, chemicals, petrol and pesticides should not be disposed of through the usual household or business waste collections.

Arranging a collection

To arrange for a collection of household hazardous waste, please contact the Corporation of London, who provide a collection service on our behalf.

The Corporation of London will collect small quantities of asbestos and hazardous chemicals, for example pesticides, petrol, paraffin, diesel, creosote and paint strippers. For more information about the service please visit the Corporation of London’s website or call 020 7332 3433.

Collection charges

There is usually no cost for the first collection (depending on the amount of waste), but subsequent collections will be chargeable depending on the amount and type of material you have.

Other types of difficult, hazardous or special waste'

Hazardous waste such as television and fridges can be collected as part of the Council’s bulky waste service

Clinical waste

The Council provides a collection service from domestic properties for clinical sharps and CAPD home dialysis waste.

Referrals for CAPD waste will need to be in writing from the Primary Care Trust, Local/District nurse.

Yellow bags are provided to residents for the collection of CAPD waste.

Please send the referrals to:

Sharps boxes are not provided by Waltham Forest and are collected on a request basis.

For advice or to request a collection contact Waltham Forest Direct on 020 496 3000 or email wfdirect@walthamforest.gov.uk

Dog waste, incontinence pads, nappies and sanitary towels

The Council does not provide a separate collection service for these items as they are not classed as clinical waste. Please place these items into your general refuse bin, though we ask that you double black bag in order to reduce the possibility of spillage.
