Business advice

Last updated 4 February 2013

Providing advice to new or existing businesses in the area on all aspects of running a business from starting a business to property, tax, employment law, business rates etc.

At the present time, the Council is unable to provide a business advice direct to customers. However, the Council is working with a number of partner organisations who can provide support and advice to applicants hoping to set up or maintain a business. This may include advice on subjects ranging from available grants and co-operative development to business planning.

Leytonstone town centre

Businesses in the Leytonstone commercial centre established the first town centre Business Improvement District (BID) in North London and the second BID in the London Borough of Waltham Forest back in 2007. In a postal ballot, a 95% yes mandated was awarded by the businesses signalled a change of direction for the district centre.

A BID is a defined geographical area like in a town centre, where businesses come together to decide how to improve their trading environment. Through consultations, a range of projects are agreed by businesses. These are then put to a democratic vote involving all the businesses in the proposed BID area. BID status grants businesses an opportunity to breathe new life and energy into areas of business and commerce.
