Blue badges for organisations
What is the Blue Badge scheme for organisations?
The Blue Badge scheme for organisations provides a national range of parking concessions for organisations who have clients with severe mobility problems and who have difficulty using public transport. The scheme is designed to help organisations by allowing them to park close to their destination. The national concessions only apply to on-street parking. They do not apply to off-street car parks, such as supermarket car parks, or privately owned roads, such as those you find at airports.
An organisation badge is issued to an organisation whose responsibility includes the care and transportation of disabled people, who would meet the eligibility criteria for a blue badge should they apply individually. In all circumstances, badges are supplied to organisations rather than to individual staff members. The badge can only be used when disabled person(s) are present and misuse can constitute a criminal offence.
Organisations applying for a badge should cater for an adequate number of people with the required degree of disability. Where relatively few meet the eligibility criteria for a badge in the organisation, then those disabled people who meet the criteria should apply for an individual badge. This will then allow the holder to use the badge in any vehicle in which they are travelling, as either a driver or a passenger.
The vehicle must be registered to the organisation at the organisations address. The vehicle should be licensed under the Disabled Passenger Vehicle (DPV) Taxation Class.
The Blue Badge must not be on display except when the vehicle is being used for transporting a disabled passenger.
