Report dog fouling

Last updated 12 June 2013

Waltham Forest Council actively encourages dog owners to act responsibly and clear up after their dogs.

If you are experiencing a problem with dog fouling in your area or witness a dog owner who allows their dog to foul in a public place without cleaning it up afterwards, you should report it to us.

You can report dog fouling via our online form

If you are unable to complete our online form please email wfdirect@walthamforest.gov.uk, call 020 8496 3000,  or visit our Customer Services Centre or a Library Plus for advice on how to complete the form.

What happens next?

Dog fouling will be cleaned at the same time as a scheduled street clean for the particular road or pavement. To find the street cleaning day for your street search on My Place

Where details of an irresponsible dog owner have been given they will be passed to the Enforcement team who will do an initial investigation within 3 days and a decision will be made on what action to take.

Those that leave their mess behind are liable to an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice under the 2005 Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act. Dog owners who are registered blind are exempt from the Act.

Failure to pay within 14 days could result in £1,000 fine through prosecution in
the magistrates' court.
